Our Christian conviction that “God will provide” doesn’t help us to explain rationally the course of human events, whether we’re talking about why a particular friend got sick and died or why the whole world, it seems, is threatened by climate change. Rather, Providence is a confession (by those who are given the eyes of faith) that God works in, around, and through those things that oppose God, to accomplish God’s purposes.
