Goodness, for a Christian, comes not from mere mastery of God’s rules or their merely skillful reinterpretation, but rather from their relationship with Christ. He both commands us to keep God’s holy law and gives us the resources to do so, namely, his presence among us. And, in this, Jesus echoes Micah’s admonition that we “walk humbly with our God.”
