Adult Education is central to our church. A full roster of programs last year addressed a critical, contemporary theme: the role of the church in today’s fearful society. Diverse programs ranged from personal stories shared by members of our congregation to programs by speakers from the United Nations who focused on Afghanistan and the land mine issue, as well as a program by Rev. Barbara Jones Hagendorn, associate executive presbyter, Presbytery Hudson River, who addressed the mission of the church in the world today.

Thought-provoking programs were also led by members of our congregation to examine such critical issues as world hunger, diversity and racism. Programs included a panel discussion about racism with minority high school student, and “Islam 101,” a multi-week course to provide deeper understanding and insight into Islamic culture and beliefs.

Other programs concerned our church’s local and general missions. Of great interest were sessions about the renovation and rededication of our organ. Also of interest were programs concerning members’ experience with “Justice Sunday” and the CROP Walk. This year, during Lent, Adult Education also hosted a series of “Soup and Bread” seminars on relationships led by Rev. and Mrs. George Kandle.
