Men's Breakfast Group PDF Print E-mail
Background
In September 1982, a monthly, non-sectarian Men's Breakfast was started to provide nourishment, fellowship, support and intellectual stimulation to men of the community the second Sunday of the month.

Since many of the men were commuters, there seemed to be little opportunity, outside of the office, to talk with other men. At the time we formed, several men were undergoing very stressful problems and it was felt that early Sunday morning breakfasts in our church was an ideal time and place to reach out to each other.

None of the trappings of business are involved: there are no officers, no treasury and no minutes. On a rotating basis, one person brings the food, the men cook the breakfast and the morning starts with a prayer. Most times there is a speaker, often one of the regular attendees, or an interesting and involved outsider will serve as a 'catalyst' with a lot of participation and interaction by attendees.

From this informal setting many meaningful projects have developed, elements of which have been incorporated into the Community Center where many of the men are deeply involved: a Career Center that provides one-on-one counseling and job search assistance; a Food Pantry and Clothing Bank.

The Midnight Run ministry grew out of this fellowship, making regular trips into New York City to provide food, drink, clothing and supplies for the Homeless.

The breakfast supported "A"(Adult)-Home during its formative years. A-Home provides affordable housing for the elderly and/or handicapped.

We are also involved with programs connected with the only maximum security women's prison in New York State, which is located in a neighboring town.

Thanks to all who present, cook, pray, laugh, "dine," clean up and make the effort to join us. We invite all who might appreciate it: become a part of this community breakfast.

Meetings
We gather at 7:30 am on the Second Sunday of every month (except July & August) to set up and cook our breakfast. Our meeting then starts at 8:00 am. We start our cleanup at 9:00 am to prepare for the 10:00 am church service. The Men's Breakfast has been defined as "The most religious, non-religious Group".
